Sony PRS-T1, Android, and OPDS
I received my new Sony PRS-T1 yesterday, and the first thing I did was root it (The ebook reader, Mobile read thread) using Porcupan’s “expand-set” firmware.
After a few missteps, I eventually managed to have everything configured as I wanted (tip: disable animations in Android general settings). And I have a rooted PRS-T1, with FbReader, Coolreader and a few other things installed.
This is cool ! I can either use the vanilla Sony launcher (nice as it is) and choose another reader software when I load a book, or use another launcher (less nice, more adapted to Android phones than EPD) and (for example) FbReader to browse my OPDS catalogs.
Here are some screenshots :
I still need to contact Coolreader developer to ask him how I can add a custom OPDS catalog to his app, because I like it better than FbReader.
Does Aldiko work on rooted PRS-T1, too?
Not for the moment, no. I think it has something to do with the rooting kit having problems with a specific “security” folder… Porkupan is working on this, anyway !
In Cool Reader, when you go into the Online Catalogs menu, You need to tap and hold one of the catalogs (i.e.: Feedbooks) and when the menu pops up, select new catalog and enter the required information. Took me for a loop when I found it.
Hope it helps.
Thanks !
Hi, could you inform us if CoolReader “problems” are gone?
Not sure of what you mean by “CoolReader problems” but here’s the latest report : I started reading a book a few weeks ago that CoolReader couldn’t open at all, and ended up using FbReader (which I liked less, as I said). But someone had patched it to make the T1 buttons turn the pages, and after a few hours and some setting up I began to like it.
Now I don’t use CoolReader anymore 😉
But I guess it’ll change again, because CoolReader’s dev is really reactive and adds new features daily, whereas FbReader is not updated often.
